Rome, Italy

If you haven’t been to Rome and are thinking of taking a cruise that goes through Rome (Civitavecchia) , make sure it’s your embarkation or disembarkation port and add a few days before or after your cruise. You will not regret this.

There is just too much to see and do for a single day trip. It would be kind of like eating only one potato chip or one French fry. You don’t want to have to choose between visiting the Colosseum or St Peter’s Basilica and missing out on all the other popular sites like the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and the Spanish Steps, to name just a few!

Be aware that the port is very far from Rome’s city-center. It’s in Civitavecchia, which is over an hour’s drive away. Also, good to know, all the shore excursions and transfers with the ship are very expensive but taking a taxi would be even pricier (150 Euros one way!).
