N.A.T.

N.A.T.  =  Nathalie Against Trash !!!

Please support me and encourage me with my new beach cleanup and conservation initiative! This is a cause dear to my heart!

When I go to the beach I spend time picking up debris on the seashore in an effort to protect marine life. Plastic is the worst! Sea turtles feed on it thinking its jellyfish and die because they ingested a toxic substance. Seabirds are at risk too – they can’t tell the difference between tiny fish and small pieces of plastic that can kill them. I can’t say that I enjoy picking up other people’s trash but I tell myself that it’s worth the effort if my actions save a living creature’s life!

If all those who enjoy spending time on the water or at the beach picked up a few pieces of rubbish every time they went out, we could win the battle and protect our oceans.  We would also set a great example for others, especially the kids that will inherit this planet from us.

Did you know that there are patches of micro-plastic particles and other debris in the Pacific Ocean? You can read more about it on noaa.gov

Garbage patches are also polluting the Great Lakes, an important natural resource which contains 20% of the freshwater in the world! More on this topic noaa.gov

Plastic and other debris discarded in our lakes is not only unsightly but also dangerous to marine life and can upset the delicate balance in these ecosystems! The whole planet relies on this, and is at risk.

I remember being very disappointed and saddened while scuba diving in a lake near where we used to live. Countless plastic cups were littering the bottom of the lake. Discarded, on purpose or by accident, it doesn’t change the end result – it pollutes and kills aquatic life!

Together we can make a difference!

So the next time you go to the beach or a coastline, join me in my efforts to cleanup and protect marine life. If you see someone else picking up trash, thank him or her.

Write me back and tell me about your efforts, send me a picture and I’ll post it with a big thank you!

I really would appreciate it if you could help me spread the word.

It’s our planet, lets clean it up!
