Africa

The diversity of places, cultures and wildlife to be discovered in Africa is what makes it such a unique area to explore. We’ve been there multiple times and we hope to be able to go back and explore more of the enchanted places it has to offer.

Egypt was the first place we visited in Africa. We were on a guided tour through the land of the ancient pyramids and pharaohs. Our itinerary took us from Cairo to Abu Simbel and included a Nile River cruise from Aswan to Luxor. Following our tour, we spent a few days in Hurghada on the Red Sea.

The ancient Egyptian vestiges were unlike anything we had ever seen before! The grandiosity of it all was astonishing and even made the Roman and Greek temples we had seen a few years before look small in comparison.

Our second trip to Africa was to Southern Morocco. Our guided tour took us from Marrakech to the Western Sahara and ended in Agadir on the Atlantic Coast.

The highlight of our Moroccan adventure was without a doubt seeing the sunrise over the dunes of Merzouga in the Sahara. What an awe-inspiring moment, an experience not to be missed! One of the Nomadic tribesmen guiding us in the Sahara Desert offered my husband 3 camels as a trade to keep me. We couldn’t tell if they were having fun with tourists or being serious, but I’m glad he refused!

Another memorable trip was our private safari in Kenya and Tanzania followed by a few days in Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean. A dream come true!

The natural beauty of the savanna and the exotic wildlife is what lured us to this fascinating land. It was beyond what we had imagined! Pictures, even while amazing, don’t do it justice. We saw the Great Migration, fields of wildebeests as far as the eye could see, literally in the millions.

In South Africa we visited Cape Town and then went on safari in some of the game reserves in the Kruger area. There’s nothing like riding in an open-top jeep and encountering some of the world’s most fascinating animals.

Another time we combined a visit to the mighty Victoria Falls in Zambia with a safari in Botswana. It was a great experience where we enjoyed both river and land safari in the Chobe area and the Okavango Delta.

Another time we timed our African adventure to see Tanzania’s Great Migration in the Northern Serengeti. This once in a lifetime experience was followed by a safari in Central and Eastern Serengeti. And then we went to Zanzibar for some scuba diving on the island’s beautiful reefs.

On our most recent trip was a fly-in safari in Namibia. Our adventure began in Sossusvlei where we saw the huge sand dunes of the Namib Desert. Then we headed to the rugged Skeleton Coast to see shipwrecks and the barren landscape before moving on to the Etosha National Park area for some animal viewing. To top it off we returned to MalaMala in South Africa for a 4-day safari.

We hope to be lucky enough to return to this magical land one again…
